Design & Technology

At Woodside, our design and technology curriculum makes connections between other subjects such as mathematics, science, computing, art and English. Our children use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that respond to a given real-life brief which develops their understanding of how design and technology impacts on our lives and the wider world. We want our children to be the innovators of the future and to understand that they can, through design and technology, contribute to the wellbeing of themselves and others. In line with the National Curriculum for design and technology, our intent is that all children:

  • develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world
  • build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users
  • critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others
  • understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook
