Science

At Woodside, we aim for all of our children to develop the scientific knowledge and skills to understand the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. We understand that science has the power to change the world for the better and we want our children to be able to play their part in this. Our science curriculum allows children to develop key foundational knowledge and concepts, including how science can explain or predict what is happening and why. Through our science curriculum, we want Woodside children to develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about the world around them. In line with the National Curriculum for science, our intent is that all children:

develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics
develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future

The curiosity and desire to learn more about the world around us
Able to predict, test and explain in response to a question asked
Creativity – the ability to think of ideas and possibilities, and to respond to unexpected outcomes

Our Nursery and Reception staff work closely with subject teams to ensure our curriculum is carefully planned from Nursery through to Year 6.
